As Michigan's weather heats up so does car theft! To combat it? More H.E.A.T!

H.E.A.T. which stands for Help Eliminate Auto Thefts, is a Michigan statewide program formed for the prevention of vehicle theft. The hotter months are known for being car theft season as reported by the FBI. To give you an idea back in 2010 a car was stolen every 42.8 seconds, that's 737,000 cars which added up to $4.5 billion lost! (H.E.A.T. H.E.A.T. offers some reminder tips to motorist to keep them and their vehicles safe.

Always lock your car when unattended. Set alarms or any other anti-theft devices.
Invest in locking lug nuts, easy-to-steal tires and rims are a huge target for thieves.
Park your car in the garage whenever you can.
Take with you or hide all personal belongings and valuables.
No car is worth your life, so in the event of a carjacking give them the keys. Most times a carjacking will involve a weapon, it's not worth the risk.

H.E.A.T. is partnered with Michigan law enforcement agencies to take action on tips. All calls regarding a tip may be reported as confidential and there are rewards for those who call in.

$1,000 if the tips leads to the arrest and prosecution of a suspected car thief or person suspected of auto-theft related insurance fraud or identity theft.
$2,000 for information leading to the issuance of a warrant for a carjacking suspect.
