Ford & Toyota Recalls
December 6th, 2012 at 2:58 pm   starstarstarstarstar
Ford Recall
Ford Motor Company recently recalled 73,320 Escapes and 15,833 Fusions from their 2013s due to overheating that could result in engine fires.

The recalls for both the Escape and Fusion are the SE and SEL models with 1.6-liter engines. All other models of these cars from 2013 with a different engine are exempt from the recall.

Some drivers have reported their vehicle's gauges alerting them of the problem with warnings like “Engine Power Reduced to Lower Temps” and “Engine over temp, stop safely.” Drivers are to contact their dealerships to receive a replacement vehicle at no charge. Currently the parts for the repairs are not available, but once they are owners will be contacted, (Jonathan Walsh, Ford Recalling New Escape, Fusion Models for Engine Fires, The Wall Street Journal, http://blogs.wsj.com/drivers-seat/2012/12/01/ford-recalling-new-escape-fusion-models-for-engine-fires/).

To date there have been no reported injuries. To get more information on this recall U.S. owners can call 866-436-7332 and Canadian owners can call 888-222-7814.

Toyota Recall
Toyota also had a recent recall of roughly 2.77 million vehicles worldwide, including one of their top sellers, the Prius hybrid, due to steering and water pump issues.

The steering problem seems to be from wear and tear, and in the electric hybrids water pumps need to be replaced, (Yoko Kubota, Reuters, Toyota to recall 2.8 million  vehicles for steering glitch, Chicago Tribune News, http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-11-14/news/sns-rt-us-toyota-recall-priusbre8ad09a-20121113_1_joichi-tachikawa-unintended-acceleration-problems-in-toyota-vehicles).

The majority of the recalled vehicles, 1.5 million, are in Japan. The recall will affect 670,000 vehicles in the U.S.

Owners can call 800-331-4331 for more information.
