Detroit Auto Show Pushed Back a Week for 2013

Detroit is known for its auto industry, and the crème de la crème of auto shows has been hosted in the city every year since 1989; the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). The NAIAS will celebrate its 24^th year as a global event in 2013, and the Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) gave some sneak peek details for the Detroit Auto Show 2013 on Thursday.

The event will be pushed back one week later in January 2013 than this year's show. The reason for the change is the desire to not have the show overlap with the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas which typically boasts some auto technologies as well.

Attendees can expect to be ooh'd and ahh'd not only by the always advancing auto technologies at the 2013 show but also the $299 million renovations to the Detroit Cobo Center. The DADA recently signed a five year contract with Cobo, which is proof that after the 2008-2009 recession hit to the industry that the show and the auto industry itself are getting back into the swing of things.

The proof is in the statistics from this year's event generating twice as much media coverage as New York, three times as much as LA and seven times as much as Chicago, according to Rod Alberts, executive director of the NAIAS. In attendance this year were 5,265 media personnel, and 770, 932 public attendees to view the 42 new vehicle models along with the 38 global debuts. With such success it's clear that “we're back where we were four or five years ago…It shows media are coming back, coverage is coming back. Schedule for 2013 begins with the media days held from January 14-15, previews from January 16-17, charity preview on January 18, and then opening to the public from January 18-27. So mark your calendars!
